Who Is Louis Healy?
If you’re wondering what Louis Healy does, he acts, and he’s been at it since he was a nipper. Born in Salford and raised over in Cheshire. Louis landed his first professional stage role at just 12 years old in a production of ‘The Full Monty’. Today, he maintains a steady online following of over 50,000+ followers on Instagram.
He actually wanted to jack it in and go home. His parents, who know the industry inside out, told him not to sweat it; quitting at 12 wouldn’t wreck his adult career. So he stuck to soaps and one-off episodes that kept him near school, popping up early on in Doctors and Hetty Feather.
Famous Birthdays notes he was christened Louis Vincent Healy and that a few of his musical turns have even ended up on YouTube.

How Old Is Matty Healy’s Brother?
Everyone asks how old Matty Healy’s brother is, so here it is: Louis Healy age is 25. His brother Matty Healy, a frontman of ‘The 1975’, was born on 8 April 1989, making him a full twelve years older. Despite a 12-year age gap—with Matty born in April 1989 and Louis in March 2001—the brothers share a remarkably close bond.
That age gap meant no sibling squabbling; as Louis once joked, a 17-year-old isn’t going to bicker with a five-year-old beyond a quick “get out of my room”. Their dad is Benidorm and Auf Wiedersehen, Pet legend Tim Healy. Their mum is Loose Women favourite and ex-Coronation Street, Waterloo Road and Hollyoaks star Denise Welch.
Denise and Tim split in 2012, and she married Lincoln Townley in July 2013.
Emmerdale: The Schoolboy Nobody Should’ve Trusted
Louis rocked up in Emmerdale in September 2019 as Danny Harrington, a schoolboy with plenty going on under the surface. Stepping onto the ITV soap—which routinely draws 5 to 6 million viewers per episode—marked his biggest television audience to date. The Sun set the scene: Danny became a love interest for Sarah Sugden, who had to sneak around to see him.
Heart filled in the messy details, explaining the pair first met online before Charity Dingle tracked them down and reunited them. Then it all turned dark. Danny started pressuring Sarah to flog drugs for him, she twigged she’d been played, and she set him up to get nicked. His last scenes aired in early 2020 after that arrest.
He looked back on it fondly, telling the Daily Star, “It was amazing, it was by far my biggest job and my highest-profile role.” He also credits soaps with teaching him the trade’s etiquette, hitting marks, and staying grounded. Speaking to The Real, he said soaps are vital for young actors starting out.
From Vera To Bill Nighy: The Rest Of The CV
Emmerdale was not just a one-off. Louis has played Billy Scanlon in the BritBox period drama Hotel Portofino and Adam in the gritty thriller The Pact. Chuck is in Ackley Bridge, Vera, Scott & Bailey and Moving On, too. His early television work also placed him among a growing group of British television performers making their mark through major drama productions.
On the big screen he shared scenes with the great Bill Nighy in Sometimes Always Never. He’s even video-called into Mum’s show Loose Women to share his news.

How Stranger Things Turned His World Upside Down
In late 2024, Louis nabbed the lead in Stranger Things: The First Shadow at London’s 1,012-seat Phoenix Theatre, the prequel play to Netflix’s monster hit. He plays Henry Creel across the 3-hour production, embodying the shy, telekinetic teen who eventually becomes the villain Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower on screen). The show went on to win the 2024 Olivier Award for Best Entertainment or Comedy Play.
Set in 1959, it follows Henry moving from Nevada to Hawkins, where he stumbles on a suspicious box in a cave and something crawls inside him. Dr Brenner then makes him 001, and the rest is Upside Down history.
Louis debuted on 14 November 2024, taking over from award-nominated Louis McCartney under director Stephen Daldry. Speaking to WhatsOnStage, he admitted he thought he had no chance after seeing McCartney’s turn.
The gig’s brutally physical, too. He’s admitted he had zero dance training, so wrestling an invisible monster nightly was a proper challenge. Handily, it keeps him trim: he burns around 700 calories a show, which means, as he confessed to The Standard, plenty of guilt-free Deliveroo.
That swanky flat he stays in? It belongs to big brother Matty. The production, meanwhile, cleaned up, winning two Olivier Awards and a special Tony after its Broadway transfer.

The Famous Healy Family
The Healys are a proud showbiz clan with serious industry pedigree. Mum Denise Welch boasts a 40+ year TV career—including 489 episodes of Coronation Street—while big brother Matty leads The 1975, a band with 5 consecutive UK No. 1 albums and over 15 million monthly Spotify listeners. Denise Welch is among several long-running British television personalities whose careers have attracted public interest.
When Louis first joined Emmerdale, Denise announced it on Instagram with a beaming snap. When the Stranger Things news dropped, she gushed, “Can’t even begin!!!!” Lincoln Townley added, “SOOOO PROUD”, and pals like Kate Thornton piled in with congratulations.
Matty’s been to watch too, quizzing Louis on the stagecraft: “I need to know how this is done, I want to steal the ideas for our next tour.”
Louis couldn’t resist a classic little-brother wind-up: “The amount of times I’ve been backstage at your shows, watching everyone praise you. Yeah, you’re very good, but let’s get a bit of Healy number two. Some might say the better one. Some might say better-looking. Some might say more talented … Those people are me.”
The Pressure Of Being A Healy
For all the swagger, Louis has been honest about the weight of the surname. He told The Mirror: “They don’t put any pressure on me, but the little bit I probably do feel is the pressure to have a career as successful as my mum’s and dad’s, but I like that, I think I’ve always worked well under pressure, and if I know people are going to be judging me, it’s going to make me do a good job.”
He knows people whisper that famous kids get a leg-up. His answer? He has already proven them wrong.
