After yesterday’s 1-1 draw at Leeds, Amorim was blunt with the club bosses. He told them to “do their jobs” and insisted he’s the manager, not some glorified coach. A few hours later? Gone.

The Real Problem
Listen, the transfer stuff is not actually the main issue here. It’s just noise.
The real problem? Manchester United have sacked seven managers since Fergie left. Seven. They’re sixth in the league. They’ve not won the title in 13 years. And they’ve spent over a billion quid making themselves worse.
Why would any decent player join that mess right now? Seriously.
- Oliver Glasner from Palace is supposedly the favourite for the job. Nice bloke, done well there. But is he turning United around? Come off it.
- Enzo Maresca’s been mentioned. He’s probably waiting for the City job when Pep leaves. Why would he touch United with a bargepole?
- Gareth Southgate? Half the fanbase would riot. The other half would just stop watching.
What’ll Actually Happen
Nothing. That’s my prediction.
Manchester United will faff about all month, brief the papers about various targets, then sign nobody. They’ll say they’re “building for the future” or “waiting for the right players” or whatever nonsense the PR team comes up with. Come February, the window shuts and everyone acts surprised.
Then in summer, whoever’s manager by then will want completely different players anyway and we’ll do this dance again.
I’ve watched this happen for years now. It’s like Groundhog Day but more depressing.

Why This Keeps Happening
Jason Wilcox is the director of football. Apparently he’s meant to have some grand plan. But his relationship with Amorim broke down completely. There was a meeting on Friday where Amorim got proper emotional about them questioning his 3-4-3 system. That’s when it all went south.
But here’s the thing. If you sack a manager every 14 months, how are you building anything? Each new bloke wants different players. Different formation. Different coaching staff. You end up with this hodgepodge squad where nobody fits together.

As for transfers? I reckon we’ll hear Jean-Philippe Mateta’s name thrown about. He’s scored a few for Palace this season. But will they actually sign him? Doubt it.
More likely scenario: they panic-buy someone on deadline day for way too much money, he doesn’t fit the system, and twelve months from now they’re trying to move him on.
What the Fans Reckon
I’ve been reading the forums and Twitter. Blimey, the fans are done.
“Another manager sacked, another rebuild, another wasted year,” one bloke posted. “We’re a joke club now.”
Someone else said: “Why would any player want to join this circus?”
And they’re not wrong, are they? Manchester United used to be THE club. Now they’re a warning about what happens when you’ve got too much money and not enough sense.

My Take
Look, I’m not pretending to be some expert here. I’m just someone who’s watched football for 30-odd years and can spot a shambles when I see one.
Manchester United are in proper trouble. Not relegation trouble or anything daft like that. But trouble in the sense that they’ve completely lost their identity. They don’t know what they’re doing or where they’re going.
The transfer news? That’s just a symptom. The real disease is deeper. It’s the constant chopping and changing, the lack of any coherent plan, and the fact that everyone at the top seems to be pulling in different directions.
They need someone to come in and get at least three years, no matter what happens. Build something properly. But will they do that? Will they hell. First bad run and the pitchforks will be out again.
It’s exhausting watching it, never mind supporting them.
